The evening of June 1st, 2001 was supposed to be a joyous one for the royal family of Nepal. They were hosting a lavish party and looked forward to a night of entertainment and laughter. However, Crown Prince Dipendra had other plans.
He opened fire on his family, slaying nine people, including his own father, before turning the gun on himself. It’s not clear why the prince decided to go on a murderous rampage, but some suggest he wanted to marry a woman of lesser social standing and became enraged when his parents wouldn’t allow it.
