According to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, Aztec sculptures are rooted in the four-thousand-year-old traditions of the Olmec people. In the time before the Spanish conquest, the Aztecs carved thousands of sculptures from volcanic rock and semi-precious stones like jade.
